After our correspondence with Jim Lubin at Makoa.org we’ve decided it would be a good idea to list some charitable resources that are disability related. Please feel free to donate to the sites below and email us with any suggestions for new sites we could add.

Charitable Organizations/Sites

Myelitis.org – The Transverse Myelitis Association advocates for people who have transverse myelitis, recurrent transverse myelitis, recurrent transverse myelitis and recurrent optic neuritis or Devics Disease.

ALSinfo.org – To find a cure for and improve living with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) through research, education and support services for ALS patients and families.

The Miami Project – The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is a Center of Excellence at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Housed in the Lois Pope LIFE Center, it is the world’s largest, most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center, dedicated to finding more effective treatments and ultimately a cure for paralysis.

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy – A not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 by parents of children with Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy.

Project Wings – Project Wings USA, Inc. as a new local 501c3 Charitable organization that is dedicated to educating Mothers and Fathers on the various Legal and Financial Aspects of Raising Special Needs and Physically Disabled Children through it’s CARE (Compassion, Affirmation, Resilience through Education) program.

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) – JDRF is a leading global organization that is focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. It is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D.
