My mother-in-law carries extremely high blood pressure even on meds. She is phobic about everything, including using an arm blood pressure monitor, saying it will give her a blood clot. She refuses to use any blood pressure monitor other than a finger one. Sometimes she will not get a reading after several tries using this equipment. The batteries are new, it will read my blood pressure. Why does this not read hers? Maybe her blood pressure is out of range, too high, to register? Is that possible?

It's unlikely the blood pressure monitor is having problems reading her pressure because it's too high. Are you with her when she tries it on? We've never seen any evidence of cuffs causing a clot...did she read this somewhere or meet someone with a bad experience? Has she ever tried a wrist blood pressure monitor instead?
