Abbott Laboratories - Located in Abbott Park, Illinois acquired Medisense® in 1996 and on April 6, 2004 completed the acquisition of TheraSense. The integration of the two companies will result in new products to help patients and caregivers better manage diabetes.

Precision Xtra™ Advanced Diabetes Management System, A home blood glucose monitor with advanced features that are easy–to–use and deliver accurate results. The system uses Precision Xtra™ Glucose Test Strips, which feature unique TrueMeasure Technology designed to produce clinically accurate results by minimizing the effects of interfering substances. The proprietary strip technology also features a fill–trigger mechanism that minimizes strip waste and errors from insufficient blood samples.
Precision PCx™ 2.2.1, a hand–held, point–of–care blood glucose testing system offers several advantages in the areas of test strip performance, sample application, error reduction, ease–of–use and data management.

New Medisense Products Include:

Precision Xtra™ Luminous, a blood glucose monitor with advanced lighting features that enable people with diabetes to check their glucose in low-light conditions.
Sof-Tact™, the first fully integrated, fully automated, virtually painless blood glucose monitor. It is able to be used at multiple sites for blood collection. The device is cleared for use on the forearm, upper arm or base of the thumb, in addition to the fingertip.

FreeStyle - This meter, which the company began shipping June 28, 2000, eliminates virtually all the pain of testing by allowing testing at sites other than fingertips.
