What materials are in adult disposable diapers that make them absorbent?

Adult disposable diapers are made from a super absorbent material. The material consists of gel polymer particles that are 400 to 800 microns in diameter when dry, about the size of common table salt. They swell to three to four times that size when wet. But they don’t stick together to form a mass, they separate. If you examine a wet diaper (this is not recommended in most cases) more closely you can actually see the gel beads. All of the materials are non-toxic.
