Can I take my power wheelchair with me on vacation?
In most cases the answer is Yes. Most modern power wheelchairs can be taken apart and loaded into a vehicle. If the mobility device does not breakdown you may want to invest in a wheelchair lift or possibly a ramp to allow for transportation. If you’re taking a trip that requires air travel or if you’re going on a cruise there are additional concerns you may need to address. The battery for one is probably going to be the airlines or cruise-lines main concern. Most planes and cruise ships require a gel cell battery or a battery that does not have the ability to spill if it cracks or break. Wet cell batteries are typically banned from travel because of their potential to leak.
